Shùil è una storia musicale che parla di fotografia, viaggi e avventura.

In un grigio pomeriggio di settembre Craig Sinclair, fotografo professionista e reporter, siede alla sua scrivania, fantasticando su una sua ossessione di lunga data: potrebbe mai essere possibile scattare foto con lo stesso livello di dettaglio e accuratezza con i quali vediamo attraverso i nostri occhi?

Queste poche righe, scritte su un quaderno, saranno il punto di partenza di un’avventura incredibile, che lo porterà a risolvere misteri intricati, affrontare misteriose forze e navigare lontano, attraverso oceani tempestosi, lottando per ciò in cui crede fermamente.

La storia è ambientata in una Scozia immaginaria, in uno scenario fantasy-steampunk, nella seconda metà del diciannovesimo secolo.

È un racconto di passione, fede, resilienza e forza d’animo che vi trascinerà in un mondo di ingranaggi e vapore, tecnologia e misticismo!

Musicalmente parlando, Shùil è un lavoro eclettico, che spazia tra diversi generi musicali, pur mantenendo una sua autenticità: la struttura affonda le sue radici nel “prog-rock”, crescendo ed espandendo i suoi rami per raggiungere sonorità elettroniche e persino toni più metal!

Atmosfere ambient e un carisma progressive scorrono attraverso tutte le 23 tracce che compongono Shùil, rinforzando le fondamenta musicali del progetto e definendolo un lavoro “sperimentale”, con tutte le sue forme e i suoi colori.

Ci siamo lasciati così, più di un anno fa, con l'ultimo post.
Era il 29 settembre 2021.

Shùil ha compiuto due anni, e in occasione di questo anniversario ho deciso che era tempo di rompere questo silenzio e tornare a riprodurre musica.

La mia musica.

Torno a scrivere qui, su questa pagina, in prima persona, perché in fondo Shùil sono io, @alessiofelicioni_net. Stavolta scrivo in italiano, perché prendo leggermente le distanze da ciò che è stato contestualizzato al lancio e alla promozione del CD. La scelta di scrivere i testi in inglese non è mai stata messa in discussione e la comunicazione le si è adeguata sin da subito. Non che io rinneghi questa decisione, anzi: tornassi indietro lo rifarei.

Semplicemente ora vorrei un rapporto "sereno", tra me (la mia musica) e voi, vorrei tornare a condividere ciò che è stato, è e sarà un pezzo importantissimo della mia crescita musicale (e non solo).

Per oggi vi lascio così, con il singolo "A Man in Black", pubblicato il 14 gennaio del 2021. Vi do un momento per ricordarvi di Shùil, per riascoltarlo e farmi sapere cosa ne pensate.

Raccolgo un po' di idee e, dai prossimi giorni, riprenderò a pubblicare degli estratti dal CD. Non ho pretese, se non quella di tenere alimentata la fiamma che mi ha portato a realizzare questa piccola, grande impresa.

The writing process for Shùil took nearly 2 months to complete.

After I (@alessiofelicioni_net) composed all the music parts (aside for the vocals), I started interfacing with @valeriofacose for the housekeeping of the orchestral parts, with @andrea_giovannoli for the drum tracks to be defined and with @mauroaspite for the composition of the voice lines.

A process that took almost 3 months and ended up in @hologram_studio, where we recorded drums and vocals.

The rest, as they say... is history 🎶

When I recorded the keyboard solo for The Artefact I did one practice take and then I rambled on for like 2 hours, ending up deleting everything I came up with BUT that one practice take!

That ended up being the official solo take on the album!
